Process data server system

Case Study
Project objective

The project consists of developing a system that is responsible for collecting information in real time from the customer's manufacturing processes and storing it in a database for subsequent analysis.

Data is collected from up to nine different devices and the information is transferred directly to the database, thus saving more than 1000 tags every 2 seconds, which allows for an exhaustive analysis of the processes a posteriori.

The system integrates software from different manufacturers with full compatibility. The Rockwell Automation RSSql software acts as an interface between the Simatic Net OPC Server, where links are established with the various Siemens PLCs that control the processes, and the Oracle database.

The database and the data transaction interface reside on the same server, communicating with the equipment controlling the process through a Profibus network.

The system uses the following technology:

  • Controllers: S7-300, other generic equipment.
    HP Server.
  • Communications card: Profibus.
  • Information networks: Profibus.
  • Software:
    • SIMATIC NET
    • RSSQL
    • Oracle
