Airport climate control system

SUCCESS CASE

Solution Description

The system consists of a network with sixteen controllers and is responsible for the control of all the air conditioning equipment of an airport, including hot water generation (2 boilers), chilled water generation (2 chillers), water distribution (11 pumps and 2 groups of valves), temperature control by zones (12 air conditioners and 5 rooftops), temperature control by rooms (40 Fancoils).
Each installation can be controlled from a superior SCADA control system (Wonderware/Aveva System Platform) or from an industrial PC panel locally.
There is a time control system that automatically starts and stops each of the installations according to the time schedule configured in the system.

Technology used:

  • The control system is based on Beckhoff technology for the PLCs and an industrial PC panel with an InduSoft application for local control.
  • Communication with air conditioners, rooftops, boilers, chillers and superior control SCADA (Wonderware/Aveva System Platform) via Modbus TCP/IP.
  • Communication between stand-alone machines and network analyzers via Modbus RTU
  • Communication with room thermostats for fan coil control via KNX.
  • Control of pumps and motorized valves by wired signals.
