Plastic parts molding plant

Case Study
Project objective

The system controls the production plant of plastic parts for the manufacture of sanitary equipment.

An automaton centralizes the control of batch production, ensuring that the correct molds are used for the right batch of product demanded.

The operator panels are used to select the production recipe that configures all the operating parameters required to start up the equipment.

The system controls the quantity of raw materials used, the counting of parts manufactured according to standards and those rejected due to defects, failure of environmental conditions or testing and maintenance adjustments.

The system transmits real-time production and machine status data to an MES system, which uses a web-based information system to monitor the production and efficiency of all production lines.

The system is based on Rockwell hardware and software:

  • Automaton: ControlLogix.
  • Monitoring system: PanelView Plus 6 screens of 10''.

Communication networks:

  • Ethernet I/P: communication between PLCs, supervisory panels and sending data to MES system.
  • The I/O periphery also communicates over a ring Ethernet network with DLR protocol to provide network security and reliability.
